What is your website for?

What clients say about the build

“The entire process was seamless, easy, and incredibly user-friendly. They were patient and flexible with all the changes and back-and-forth... Most importantly, they absolutely nailed the brief.”

What is included

WordPress is only as good as what you leave out.

Every WordPress build we hand over follows 4 rules. They keep it fast, safe and easy to edit.

  1. Every section is a block drawn for your content. It has the fields your team needs and nothing they could break by accident.

    How a build runs
  2. Before anything is installed, we write down what it does and why WordPress core can't. Most builds need far fewer plugins than people expect.

    See the work
  3. Each template carries the headings, schema and internal links for one kind of search. So every new page you add starts on the right footing.

    The proof we show
  4. We skip page builder code and slider libraries, and serve images at the size they're shown. The theme sets the speed, so no plugin has to rescue it.

    Questions people ask

The argument

Why most WordPress sites get slower every year (and ours stay quick).

The theme

Website Development Group

A block theme built for you

Only the blocks your pages actually use.

Generalist build

A multipurpose theme

It has 200 options, and 6 of them are in use.

The editor

Generalist build

A drag and drop builder

One stray drag and the layout breaks.

Plugins

Updates

Website Development Group

Generalist build

Hosting

Website Development Group

Sized to the site

Generalist build

The cheapest shared plan

It slows down the moment traffic arrives.

How it runs

From first call to launch, minus the headaches.

You see the page plan before design starts, and the design before we build. So there are no nasty surprises at the end.

Week 1

Discovery

We look at what your team edits each week, what the site has to rank for, and which plugins it leans on. Starting fresh? We map what your customers search instead.

What we deliver

  • Editing workflow notes
  • Plugin and hosting audit
  • Fixed quote with line items
  • Dated build schedule
A business owner laughing during a video strategy call on his laptop, in a light-filled room with a window behind him

Weeks 2 to 4

Theme design

We draw the design as a set of blocks from the start. That way every layout on the page is one your editors can reuse.

What we deliver

  • Block inventory
  • Design tokens and type scale
  • Page templates
  • Contrast measured to AA
A crowd of people crossing a busy city street, shot from above with their movement blurred

Weeks 4 to 7

Block build

We build a custom block theme. Patterns are locked where the layout matters, and fields stay open where the words change.

What we deliver

  • Custom block theme
  • Editor patterns and locking
  • Schema and structured data
  • Forms and analytics wired
Three colleagues around a table of laptops, one standing and gesturing at a screen while the other two look on

Weeks 6 to 8

Content

Existing pages move across into the new blocks. We clean out old shortcodes and map every page to its new address.

What we deliver

  • Content migrated into blocks
  • Shortcodes removed
  • Redirect map
  • Media optimised
Blue and lime patch cables plugged into a rack panel and sweeping away in order

Weeks 8 to 9

Launch

We ship from staging with backups running and an update routine in place. Then we show your team how to edit it.

What we deliver

  • Staging to live release
  • Backups and update schedule
  • Search Console verification
  • Editor training session

The long read

Where WordPress goes wrong, and how we keep it right.

WordPress runs a huge share of the web, so a huge amount of it is built badly. The platform is rarely the problem.

The plugin count is the maintenance bill

Plugins feel free. They install in a click and solve the problem in front of you.

But every one of them is a dependency. It needs updating, it can clash with the others, and its author can stop maintaining it.

So we count them. A short list you understand costs less to run than a long one nobody can explain.

Update time as the plugin list grows
Updates and conflicts Everything else

Illustrative: the shape a plugin bill tends to take, not a measurement of any site.

Page builders trade a fast start for a slow site

A visual builder gets the first page up quickly. That's its whole appeal.

The cost is the code underneath: layers of wrappers and scripts on every page, whether the page needs them or not. You pay for it on every page view.

Blocks built for your content give editors the same freedom with a fraction of the weight.

The editor is the part your team lives in

The visitor sees the site. Your team sees the editor. Most builds only design one of them.

We lay out each block with the fields in the order people think about them, and lock the parts that shouldn't move.

So the site still looks right a year later, after plenty of people have updated it.

When WordPress is the wrong call

If the site is mostly structured content shown in several places, a headless setup may suit you better.

If it's a tool with logins and records, it's a web app. WordPress will fight you the whole way.

Either way, we'll say so before you sign.

Send us the login. We'll tell you what's slowing it down.

Questions

What people ask before hiring a WordPress developer.

What you need to know before we start a conversation.

Not answered here? Ask us directly

Do you use a page builder?

No. Our WordPress developers build a custom block theme on the WordPress editor itself. There's no builder licence to renew and no builder code slowing each page down. Your team still gets blocks to arrange, laid out for your content.

Can we keep our existing content?

You can keep all of it. We move it into the new blocks, strip out old shortcodes, and redirect every address that changes. Pages that already rank keep their history. We also record your positions before launch, so any movement is easy to see.

Who handles updates after launch?

We can, on a set schedule, with every update tested on staging before it touches the live site. Or we hand it to your team with a written routine. Either way it's agreed up front, and hosting has no lock-in contract.

How many plugins will the site have?

As few as the job allows. Every plugin on the list comes with a line saying what it does. It also says why WordPress core can't do the job. Most rebuilds end up with far fewer plugins than the old site had.

What does a WordPress build cost?

Every WordPress build gets a fixed quote with line items after a free 15-minute call. Our brand and website package starts from $6,100 + GST. A theme rebuild on existing content usually costs less than a new build with new copy.

Can you work on WooCommerce too?

Yes, though a store is its own job with its own scope. If selling online is the main goal, see our WooCommerce page. It covers how we build the store and track each sale to its source.

Is WordPress suitable for a healthcare practice?

Usually, for the public site. Patient records and clinical forms belong in your practice software, such as Best Practice, Cliniko or Halaxy. We connect the site to it, so that data never sits in WordPress.
