Website speed optimisation, because nobody waits for a slow page

Our website speed optimisation finds what makes your pages slow, fixes it at the cause and proves the difference on mid-range phones. Images, fonts and scripts each get a budget, so the site stays quick after we leave.

What is included

Every kilobyte on the page has to earn its place.

Four rules that make a site quick, and keep it that way after launch.

  1. A fast laptop on office wifi hides most problems. We test on mid-range phones and read what live visitors get.

    How a build runs
  2. We find the file or request holding a page up and remove it. Hiding it from the test with another layer fixes nothing.

    See the work
  3. Chat, pixels and heatmaps all cost load time. We list them, agree what stays, and load the rest after the page.

    The proof we show
  4. Font files are cut to the characters you use and images to the size they display, which is often most of the weight.

    Questions people ask

The argument

A green score and a fast site are different animals.

How it runs

From first call to launch, minus the headaches.

You see the page plan before design starts, and the design before we build. So there are no nasty surprises at the end.

Week 1

Measure

We record how the site performs for live visitors and on mid-range phones, template by template, before we touch a line.

What we deliver

  • Field data baseline
  • Lab runs on mid-range devices
  • Slowest templates ranked
  • Fixed scope and price
A business owner laughing during a video strategy call on his laptop, in a light-filled room with a window behind him

Weeks 1 to 2

Diagnose

Each slow page is traced to what holds it up: the image, the font file, the script or the server response it waits on.

What we deliver

  • Waterfall for each key template
  • Causes ranked, largest first
  • Third-party script inventory
  • Budget proposal
A crowd of people crossing a busy city street, shot from above with their movement blurred

Weeks 2 to 4

Fix

The causes are fixed in the order that moves the numbers most, with each change tested on staging before it ships.

What we deliver

  • Images resized and re-encoded
  • Fonts subset and preloaded
  • Scripts deferred or removed
  • Server and cache tuning
Three colleagues around a table of laptops, one standing and gesturing at a screen while the other two look on

Weeks 4 to 5

Verify

The same pages are measured again on the same devices, so the difference is a comparison you can check rather than a claim.

What we deliver

  • Before and after per template
  • Core Web Vitals checked
  • Visual regression check
  • Report in plain English
Blue and lime patch cables plugged into a rack panel and sweeping away in order

Week 5

Hold

A performance budget goes into the build, so the next heavy image or tag is caught before it reaches a visitor.

What we deliver

  • Weight budget in the build
  • Script budget agreed
  • Image upload guidance
  • Field data watch set up
A shop owner standing in his plant shop holding a potted plant, shelves of plants behind him

The long read

Where the seconds actually go.

A slow site is rarely one big problem. It is a dozen small ones that nobody weighed. The work is finding which of them your visitors feel.

Speed is decided on a phone you have never held

Most sites are tested on the quickest machine in the office. Most visitors arrive on something slower, on a mobile network, halfway through something else.

The score that matters is the one they get, on the phone in their hand.

So we measure there first, with field data from live visits and runs on mid-range phones, before anyone suggests a fix.

Where a heavy page carries its weight
Could be cut Needed

Illustrative: the usual shape of a heavy page, not a measurement of yours. We weigh your pages before recommending anything.

Every tag was added for a good reason

Chat widgets, pixels, heatmaps, review badges. Each one was added by someone who needed it that month.

Together they often cost more load time than the site itself. They also compete with your own content for the first seconds of every visit.

We list every one, show you what each costs, and agree a budget. What earns its place stays, loaded after the page. What does not comes out.

Quick once is easy, quick next year is the job

A site optimised in March can be slow again by September. Nobody breaks it on purpose. It gets heavier one heavy image at a time.

So the last stage adds a budget to the build. If a page grows past its weight limit, the build says so before it ships, and ongoing maintenance keeps watch on it after that.

When speed is not your problem

Sometimes a site is already quick and the enquiries are low for another reason: the offer, the copy, the form.

If the measurements say speed is not what holds you back, we will tell you that instead of selling a fix.

And if it is the server that is slow, a move to managed hosting may do more than any amount of front-end work.

Send us your slowest page.We will show you why it is slow.

Questions

What people ask before a speed project.

What you need to know before we start a conversation.

Not answered here? Ask us directly

Will faster pages help our rankings?

Core Web Vitals are part of how search engines judge page experience, but they are one signal among many. The clearer gain is usually in enquiries, because fewer people give up before the page appears.

Can you promise a perfect score?

No, and nobody honestly can. What we do is measure the same pages on the same devices before and after, then show you the difference. A lab score is a useful check. Chasing a perfect one can cost features you need.

Will you remove our tracking or chat tools?

Not without agreeing it with you. We show what each script costs and suggest what to delay or drop, and you decide. Most can stay if they load after the page does.

What does speed work cost?

The audit is a fixed price. The fixes are quoted from the audit's ranked list of causes, so you know what each improvement costs before we start on it.

Can you speed up a site you did not build?

Usually, yes. We work on WordPress, Shopify and custom builds. Some platforms limit what can change, and the audit says plainly where those limits sit. Building a new site instead? We set the speed budget from the first page.

How is this different from maintenance?

Maintenance keeps a site current and working month to month. Speed optimisation is a project that finds and removes the weight, then leaves a budget in place for maintenance to keep watch on.

Do sites in our industry have particular speed problems?

Often. Booking widgets, embedded maps, review feeds and intake forms are common in the industries we build for, and each is a heavy third-party script. We know where they usually hurt and how to load them later.
