What is included

Every page earns its spot, or it's off the site.

Four rules we design every page against, so it gets found, reads clearly and brings in work.

  1. We decide what each page has to prove before anything is drawn. Then we design the layout that proves it.

    How a build runs
  2. Each page is built for one search and the one decision behind it. Nothing on the page fights for attention.

    See the work
  3. We put the evidence right beside the claim, at the spot where buyers usually start to hesitate.

    The proof we show
  4. We agree the speed and accessibility limits before the first mockup. Every design choice after that has to fit inside them.

The argument

What custom gets you that a template can't.

Which pages

Website Development Group

Planned from search data

Demand decides which pages exist.

Page layout

Website Development Group

Drawn for the decision

Shaped by what the buyer needs to see.

Your content squeezed into the shape.

The words

Website Development Group

Written in your customers' words

Jobs for tradies. Patients for clinics.

Load speed

Website Development Group

Set before the first mockup

A speed limit the design has to live inside.

Generalist build

Checked after launch

What you keep

Website Development Group

The site, the code, the accounts

Plus a rankings baseline from launch week.

Generalist build

A login and good luck

Nothing to measure against.

How it runs

From first call to launch, minus the headaches.

You see the page plan before design starts, and the design before we build. So there are no nasty surprises at the end.

Week 1

Discovery

Before anything is drawn, we agree what the site is for. We also agree who it has to win and who it's up against.

What we deliver

  • Goals and constraints
  • Competitor snapshot
  • Fixed quote with line items
  • Dated build schedule
A business owner laughing during a video strategy call on his laptop, in a light-filled room with a window behind him

Weeks 1 to 2

UX foundations

We map the pages the site needs and the order each one tells its story. Then we settle what every page has to say.

What we deliver

  • Sitemap
  • Section structure
  • Audience and search notes
  • Hero messaging
A crowd of people crossing a busy city street, shot from above with their movement blurred

Weeks 3 to 5

Design

Every page comes from one set of parts. So page 20 looks like page 1 and costs far less to make.

What we deliver

  • Design tokens and type scale
  • Component library
  • Homepage and templates
  • Contrast measured to AA
Three colleagues around a table of laptops, one standing and gesturing at a screen while the other two look on

Weeks 5 to 8

Build

We build it to load fast, with the schema Google reads. Then we connect it to the CRM and booking tools you already pay for.

What we deliver

  • Static-first architecture
  • Schema and structured data
  • Forms, CRM and booking
  • Analytics and conversion events
Blue and lime patch cables plugged into a rack panel and sweeping away in order

Weeks 8 to 9

Launch

We map every old URL to a new one and record your rankings before go live. A new site can't quietly cost you traffic.

What we deliver

  • Redirect map and QA pass
  • Search Console verification
  • Rankings baseline
  • Handover and training

The long read

What you're actually paying for.

Every agency says custom. This is what it means on our builds, and where it stops.

Your pages should come from search data

Most sites start as a list from a kickoff meeting. Home, About, Services and Contact.

That list is a guess, and it's made by the people furthest from your customers.

We work the other way round. We pull the searches your market makes, then group them by the decision behind each one. That decides your pages.

What a 4-page site answers
Has a page No page for it

Illustrative: the shape a set of searches takes, not a measured one. Yours is researched before anything is drawn.

A template is cheap on day one

Then it starts charging rent.

The layout was drawn for someone else's business, so your content never quite fits. The gaps get filled with plugins.

Each plugin adds weight, another update to track and one more thing that can break your forms at 2am.

The bill turns up later, which is why it's so easy to miss.

Where the money goes after launch
Patches and plugins The site itself

Illustrative: the shape of a maintenance bill, not a measurement.

What custom does not mean

Custom doesn't mean strange software. We build on custom code, WordPress or Shopify, so any good developer can pick it up.

A site that only one team can maintain is a headache with a nice homepage.

Custom doesn't mean an open-ended bill either. We fix the scope before we start, and the quote with it.

When a template is the right call

Sometimes it is, and we'll say so.

Testing whether a market exists? Need something credible online this month? A good template can beat a custom build that isn't ready yet. We'll tell you straight.

Custom starts paying when Google becomes a channel you rely on. It also pays when a slow, rigid site is already costing you enquiries.

Starting out or starting over?Let's build one that sells.

Questions

Custom website design questions, answered straight.

What you need to know before we start a conversation.

Not answered here? Ask us directly

How is custom website design different from a template?

A template decides your pages before anyone looks at what your customers search for. Custom website design starts from those searches, so every page has demand behind it. The layout is then drawn for your business, your copy and your goals. You also skip the plugin pile that templates tend to need later.

Do you write the copy, or do we?

We do. Our copywriters write every page in the words your customers use, so you never stare at a blank page. We write the copy before the layout is final, because words squeezed into a box rarely sell. You read and approve every line before anything goes live.

How long does a custom website take?

Most websites take 4 to 12 weeks. A small site for a new business sits at the shorter end. A large site with many services and areas sits at the longer end. The slow part is usually content and approvals, and you get a dated schedule before you commit.

How much does custom website design cost?

Every website gets a fixed quote with line items after a free 15-minute call. Our brand and website package, with a logo and up to 8 pages, starts from $6,100 + GST. If the build takes longer than planned, that's our problem, not another invoice.

Will a new design cost us the rankings we already have?

It shouldn't, and protecting them is part of the scope. Before launch we map every old URL to its new home and set up the redirects. We also record your rankings the week you go live. That way any movement is visible early and can be fixed while it's small.

Do you build for my industry?

Most likely. We build for trades, health, NDIS, retail, professional services and more, across Australia. If we haven't built in your industry before, we'll tell you straight. In that case the discovery stage takes longer, and the quote says so up front.

Who owns the site when it's finished?

You do. That includes the code, the content, the domain and every account it connects to. There's no locked builder and no licence holding you in. Hosting is billed monthly, there are no lock-in contracts, and you can leave with 30 days' notice.
